TRANSLATIONS

THE YOGA SUTRA: One of many translations of the Yoga Sutra on the Web.

THE TAO TE CHING: One of many translations of Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching on the Web. This one is quite poetic.

ROBERT WISEHART'S DIRECTORY: This site is a wonderful all-round resource, particularly for its links to dozens of translations of classic Yoga texts, including The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, The Yoga Sutra, The Bhagavad Gita, some of the Upanishads and key Buddhist texts.

THE HEART SUTRA: One of many translations of the Heart Sutra, a key Buddhist text, on the Web. This one has hyperlinks which take you to detailed expositions of the main technical terms.

PROJECT UNICORN: This site has an archive of Western and Eastern writings, in some cases entire texts. As well as Chuang Tzu and Lao Tzu you will find the whole of Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, most of Nietzsche's published work and William James' Variety of Religious experience. This link belongs equally in the next section: there are extracts from Krishnamurti, Ramana Maharishi and Alan Watts. Visit this site!

ALLSPIRIT ON RUMI: Look at this site for a selection of Rumi's utterly inspiring poetry. There are some good sections on other related matters, e.g. Zen. Marvellous!!

MODERN COMMENTARIES ON SPIRITUALITY

TANTRA: Nirvana is Samsara, Samsara is Nirvana!

MODERN TEACHERS: Sarlo's Guru Rating Service has a wealth of reports and opinions on a vast range of teachers. Very amusing too.

JNANI OR BHAKTI? Mike King's carefully researched and obviously intensely experienced account of the "deep structure" of spirituality. Practically useful to seekers who are invited to diagnose their disposition as being either towards Bhakti Yoga or Jnani Yoga.

MANDALA OF YOGA: Our sister site: gives a brief overview of many types of Yoga and relates them through hyperlinks. Links to some key texts.

GOPI KRISHNA: This site briefly outines the life and work of Gopi Krishna which was deeply informed by his dramatic experience of Kundalini awakening. Krishna comes across as wonderfully straightforward, honest and undogmatic. His book Living with Kundalini is certainly a must for modern yogis. The site features some of Gopi Krishna's interesting and thought provoking writings.

MUSIC

SURDHWANI: The site of UK-based Asian music society. Hear and learn about the marvels of Indian classical music.

DAVID HYKES: Hear and learn about David Hykes' wonderful work with harmonics and overtone chanting. This music can help to induce deep meditative states and is intensely beautiful.

THE YOGA OF SOUND: Visit this site to learn about Stefan Cartwright's Yogic use of the gong, Tibetan bowls and voice work. Details of his unique Resona course in listening, sound and silence are here.

SHRUTI BOXES: Find out about this simple but beautiful musical instrument which is an ideal aid for those wishing to explore the voice.

GROUPS AND ORGANISATIONS

UNITED COMMUNITIES OF SPIRIT: An inspiring site dedicated to bringing people together. Also hosts a very interesting list organised by state of the art data-base software.

THE YOGA RESEARCH CENTER: An excellent site with vast amounts of interesting material and good links.

THE YOGA ALLIANCE: This organisation registers teachers who have a certain level of training and competence. Teacher Training Schools which meet the Yoga Alliance standards are also registered. The organisation is made up of representatives of a large variety of styles and approaches to Yoga and celebrates diversity in Yoga. The organisation is mainly concerned with Yoga in the US but also offers international registration.

THE INDEPENDENT YOGA NETWORK: This young organisation consists in a coalition of varied teacher training organisations (about a dozen at the moment) dedicated to promoting the vitality, independence and diversity of Yoga teacher training in the UK and beyond. Its major current project is the setting up of the Yoga Register to register teacher training schools and teachers who have met its high standard of training which is based on Yogic principles. Lots of inspring articles on this site.

THE YOGA REGISTER: This organisation registers and supports Yoga teacher training schools and Yoga teachers who can demonstrate that they have met its high standards. It is completely independent of non-Yoga bodies such as The Sports Council and the fitness industry. Its standards are based on the Yogic principles of ahimsa, satya and svadayaya. Teachers and training schools wishing to help maintain the independence of Yoga in the UK and build the solidarity amongst yogis that will ensure it should register now!

PRACTICAL HELP

RESPIRE.NET: This site is dedicated to giving instructions for a simple breathing exercise which relaxes the diaphragm and the whole body.

YOGACLASS.COM: Good links & an online Yoga lesson.

EXTENSIONYOGA.COM: Sam Dworkis' "Western Approach" to Yoga offers a wealth of physiological information of great practical value to all practitioners and especially to teachers. The approach to physical Yoga is wonderfully non-ascetic and offers practical advice on how to avoid injury and practise appropriately for one's age and state of health. We utterly endorse his philosophy of non-striving and staying with "what is". Great links page!

GROWTHMIRROR.COM: A interactive web site based on classical spirit of yoga, having lot of free self help material and programs for individual institutions & corporates.

HOW TO MEDITATE: Matt Taylor's wonderfully clear guide to an effective meditation based on the second sutra of the Yoga Sutra.
