The Parkdale Yoga Centre

Here in the heart of the English Midlands, where the Industrial Revolution first exploded onto the world, we inhabitants of the Parkdale Yoga Centre, Wolverhampton, enjoy a haven of peace in the midst of the modern urban frenzy. Thanks to the Victorian builders who built this beautiful row of houses in its own small parkland, we enjoy the sight of mature chesnut trees from our windows; we see foxes, squirrels, bats, heron and frogs; we hear owls and swifts whilst being only ten minutes walk from the city centre.

We have lived here for about seven years now and we started giving Yoga classes as soon as we had got the best room suitably decorated. We are dedicated to our work of helping the blessings of Yoga (in the broadest sense) to permeate into the local community and we hope that we are helping it to find its place within Western culture.

We take creativity to be an important Yoga in its own right, both when it expresses spiritual experience and when it is a spiritual technology. Hence, there is quite a lot of painting, writing, music making, sewing and gardening goes on here.

One of our chief activities is growing our own fruit and vegetables which we do following organic principles. This helps us to put roots into the earth so that our branches can reach into the heavens and to find the deep, steady rhythm of the seasons, something which city life otherwise does not encourage.

If there is anyone out there interested in what we are doing or engaged in a similar project, it would be nice to hear from you!
