yoga weekends

These experiential Yoga weekends are ideal for regular practitioners and teachers wishing to dive deep. Adventurous novices are also welcome to attend. Their focus is on the inner orientation we need to bring to our practice for its full potency to be realised and for our pristine, easeful, natural mind to reveal itself, though each weekend will approach the matter from a unique perspective. Six to eight hours of practice are involved, including Hatha Yoga, meditation and deep relaxation. There is usually a morning class of about two hours duration involving all of these elements. Two talk/discussion sessions usefully engage the mind! An afternoon class usually involves experiencing the practices associated with the matters we have discussed and these tend to have a meditative emphasis. The atmosphere is informal and the approach is organic and fun rather than regimented. These weekends also can be taken as part of our Teacher Training: see the teacher training page of this site. Food is vegetarian or vegan; accommodation is in double and treble rooms; the group is small. £170 inclusive, payable in advance.

DATES & DETAILS:

May 21st - 22nd 2011, Patanjali's Potent Practices

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are frequently studied under the rubric 'Yoga Philosophy'. What is missed by this formulation is the fact that Patanjali bequeathed us a handful of direct, practical and potent practices. He does this by describing the pristine dance of liberated consciousness from a variety of angles and in the most nuanced way so that many types of person can be infected by it. This workshop will be dedicated to bringing this essence of Patanjali alive for the participants.

July 9th - 10th 2011, Abandoning Method, Embracing Life

Methods, however entrancing their effects might be, keep us tied to themselves and following them introduces a whisper or even a din of dis-ease. Since life itself is the home of freedom and ease, methods can be abandoned with joy. On this weekend, we will explore this crazy non-method and the expansive vista it reveals as always and already our own.

August 27th - 28th 2011, The Juice of Practice

Practising Yoga, if it is to be fully effective, isn’t like practising the piano. It isn’t a matter of perfecting some techniques and set pieces so as to give a complete and definite performance some time in the future. Yoga practice is not a dress-rehearsal but a full engagement with life as it unfolds in all its vividness. It neither ends nor begins on the Yoga mat or meditation cushion. It is not the application or result of particular techniques. It’s juice is a radical openness to what is whatever that may be. Come and explore this with us in the Yoga room, over tea, and amidst the sparkling ordinary.

(You may arrive on the Friday evening for an early start Saturday morning.)
